Since 2019 the UV flatbed, the laser engraver and the embroidery machines have run in our Penang building. Eleven methods, no middleman.

Every method we own

Eleven ways to put a logo on a thing

Silkscreen for a thousand cotton tees. Laser for a steel bottle. Foil for a gift box. Which one you get depends on the material, the artwork and how long the mark has to last.

Branding came in-house in 2019. Nothing on this page is sent out to a third party.

Four of the eleven

Ink on the surface

Colour is laid on top. Pick from here when the logo has to hold a Pantone or carry a photograph.

Silkscreen

Ink pushed through a mesh stencil. One screen per colour.

Best on
Cotton tees, totes, flat bottles. Solid colour, large runs.
Won't do
Photographs, gradients, seams and tight curves.

UV Printing

Full-colour ink cured with UV light.

Best on
Photographs and gradients, on almost any flat surface.
Won't do
Curves, fabric, and anything that flexes.

Heat Transfer

A printed film pressed on with heat.

Best on
Sportswear, nylon, numbers and names. Small runs.
Won't do
Very large areas, and heat-sensitive fabric.

Decal Transfer

A printed decal fired onto the glaze.

Best on
Mugs and ceramics. Full colour, dishwasher-safe.
Won't do
Metal, plastic, and anything not fired.

Three of the eleven

Cut into the material

Nothing is added. A laser or an acid takes material away, so the mark cannot peel, wash off or fade.

Laser Engraving

A laser burns the mark into the surface.

Best on
Metal, wood, bamboo, leather. Permanent, no ink.
Won't do
Colour. The mark is the material's own tone.

Etching

The surface chemically bitten away.

Best on
Glass, stainless steel, awards. A frosted, permanent mark.
Won't do
Colour, plastics, and fine gradients.

Chrome Mirror Laser

Laser through a chrome layer to a mirror finish.

Best on
Tumblers and flasks. A bright metallic logo.
Won't do
Only chrome-coated items, and only one tone.

Raised off the surface

Thread, foil, resin and a heated die. These are the four a person feels with a thumb before reading the logo.

Embroidery

Stitched into the fabric with thread.

Best on
Polos, caps, jackets, bags. Logos that must last.
Won't do
Fine text, thin lines, stretchy or very thin fabric.

Emboss & Deboss

The logo pressed into the surface as relief.

Best on
Leather, PU, card, notebooks. Quiet and expensive-looking.
Won't do
Colour, fine detail, hard materials.

Stamping

Metal foil pressed on with a heated die.

Best on
Gift boxes, leather, diaries. Gold and silver.
Won't do
Photographs, gradients, uneven surfaces.

Epoxy

A clear resin dome poured over a printed label.

Best on
Keyrings, badges, USB drives. Full colour with depth.
Won't do
Large areas, and anything that must lie flat.

The small instructions are the job.

Move one shirt from the L box into the marketing department's carton. Put a name on box 14. Hold six sets back for the people who were on leave.

None of that is too small to ask us for. Small instructions are where an order goes right or wrong, so we treat every one of them as seriously as the order itself.
